Cardiff web design company VSI-thinking have produced a new look and feel for the Neilson web site. The project has reviewed the current web site design, included user testing, and involved optimisation of the code. The latest responsive design technologies developed by VSI-thinking manage page elements to provide an attractive and interactive fresh face online.
The design has been simplified and displays key marketing messages on each landing page. There are some ‘surprise and delight’ messages throughout the homepage and landing pages to engage the visitor. Responsive design is key to many of the projects we deliver; with Neilson this included elements such as the dynamic search panel.
The project looked at the homepage and key landing page designs together with optimisation for the existing site. Removing embedded fonts and reducing the download times has helped improve browser rendering. Optimising the HTML helped half the current HTML download size, together with managing images to ensure the page was as light-weight as possible. Javascripts were combined into a single file, minified and compressed from the web server.
Managing Director Mark Thomas said "Many designers look to embellish their designs which can lead to bloated page designs that take ages to download and render. Making a design 'work' on the web is critical, understanding how to get the best from the medium requires experience and a lot of technical knowledge. Web design is not just about pretty pictures anymore."
