Two companies have been fined £100,000 for running premium-rate phone competitions on "typosquatted" websites. Typosquatters use misspelled versions of popular brands to prey on consumers that make a mistake while typing in a web address. The two companies were also ordered to refund all victims of the scam on top of their £100,000 fine....

Since launching their IE6 Countdown Microsoft have been trying to push users onto newer, more up to date web browsers and now the United States is the latest country to drop below the 1% usage marker, ushering in the death of Internet Explorer 6....

Microsoft might finally have a way to get IE6's usage down as they've been hoping for. They have announced that next year, big changes will be occurring on how they handle their Internet Explorer 6 users....

A recent overhaul to the Google Search Algorithm means the search engine can now work out whether a person would need up to date information or historical results, essentially giving a better guess for how "fresh" the content on a website is....

The use of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser is slowing dropping and it now enables a little under half of the world's total internet use, which combines desktop and mobile web use. That's a massive drop from the 95% of the browser market which it held seven years ago. ...

Microsoft’s Bing search engine has overtaken Yahoo! to become the world’s second most popular search engine. Data from StatCounter shows that in February 2011 Bing was used globally by 4.37% ahead of Yahoo! which was used by 3.93%. Both figures however trail far behind Google’s massive share which is more than 89% of the global search engine market....

Microsoft are offering $250,000 for the originator of the Downadup/Confliker virus. This virus, which has been around for 5 months and has been infecting millions of computers world wide. "People who write this malware have to be held accountable," said George Stathakopulos, of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group talking to the BBC....
